Chilly New Year’s Eve ahead with snow overnight

Montrealers will be welcoming the New Year under cold conditions, with gusty winds today and light snow expected overnight.

New Year’s Eve will bring a mix of sun and cloud, with west winds gusting up to 40 km/h and a high of minus -10 celsius. Wind chills will make it feel closer to minus – 22 C this morning and minus – 16 C this afternoon.

Light snow is expected to end early New Year’s Day before skies clear, though temperatures will remain cold near minus – 14 C. Overnight lows could fall as low as minus – 23 C.

The cold stretch continues into Friday and Saturday, with sunny skies and daytime highs around minus – 14 C. More clouds are expected Sunday, followed by periods of snow early next week. Slightly milder temperatures are forecast by Monday, with highs near minus – 7 C.

Residents are advised to dress warmly and plan ahead for winter travel as the New Year begins under frigid conditions.
