Family displaced after residential fire in Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve

A family was forced out of their home after a fire broke out early Sunday morning in Montreal’s Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood.

Firefighters were called just after 1:20 a.m. about a fire in a two-storey residential building near Beaubien Street and Rodolphe-Mathieu Avenue.

Montreal police (SPVM) confirmed the fire was not criminal in nature.

About 20 vehicles deployed to the scene to bring the fire under control around 3:30 a.m.

According to the Montreal Fire Department (SIM), the fire started in the attic, causing heavy damage to the family’s home.

No injuries were reported, and no other residents were evacuated.

The family was relocated and taken in by the Red Cross.
