Man dies following fire in Quebec City’s Saint-Sauveur neighbourhood

A man has died following a fire that broke out Saturday in an apartment building on Saint-Mathias Street in Quebec City’s Saint-Sauveur neighbourhood.

Emergency services were called to the scene late Saturday afternoon, where authorities confirmed the blaze.

During the evacuation, one person was found unconscious, according to a spokesperson for the Quebec City Police Service. Resuscitation efforts were performed on the individual, who was later taken into the care of paramedics.

The victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital.

Authorities declared the fire under control at 7:40 p.m. Saturday.

A security perimeter was set up around the apartment building. Investigators with the Quebec City Police Service and the judicial identification unit, working in collaboration with the fire commissioner’s office, remain on site to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
