Pedestrian struck by truck near Jacques Cartier bridge

A 36-year-old pedestrian was struck by a truck Monday morning at the Montreal exit of the Jacques Cartier Bridge, Montreal police (SPVM) say.

The collision occurred just before 8 a.m. on De Lorimier Ave., near the intersection with Logan Street.

Several witnesses called 911 to report the incident, with some initially believing the pedestrian had died at the scene. SPVM later confirmed that was not the case.

The victim was conscious when transported to hospital by ambulance. Authorities said he is in stable condition.

The truck driver, a 50-year-old man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. No arrests were reported.

The crash forced the complete closure of De Lorimier Ave. southbound, causing major traffic delays for commuters returning to work after the holiday break. Congestion stretched for roughly two kilometres at its peak along the bridge linking Longueuil to Montreal.

SPVM continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
