5-month-old dies, second child killed in Laval multi-vehicle collision

A five-month-old girl has died following a multi-vehicle crash Jan. 5 on Route 335 in Laval, police confirmed Thursday, bringing the death toll from that incident to two children.

The infant died shortly after her six-year-old sister, who was confirmed to have died on Jan. 6.

Laval police say nine people were taken to hospital after the crash, including the children’s parents.

Seven people were injured, while one person was treated for shock. The parents remain hospitalized and are in stable condition.

The collision occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 5, between Dagenais Blvd. and Saint-Saëns Blvd., in the Auteuil sector.

Police say a vehicle travelling northbound lost control and struck three other cars travelling in both directions. The 40-year-old driver believed to have been in the initial vehicle that caused the crash was arrested, questioned by investigators and later released on a promise to appear.

No charges have been laid.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, though road conditions were reported to be slippery and partially snow-covered.
