Montreal police are investigating a suspected arson after a small fire broke out early Saturday at a commercial and residential building in the city’s LaSalle borough.
Emergency services were called around 4:50 a.m. to Dollard Avenue near Lithuania Street, where flames were reported on a terrace of the building.

Police officers arrived just before Montreal firefighters and confirmed the presence of a fire.
Incendiary material was found at the scene, and police say the fire is believed to have been deliberately set.
“Some elements suggest that the fire was of a criminal nature,” said SPVM spokesperson Jeanne Drouin.
The Montreal fire department quickly brought the blaze under control. Damage to the licensed establishment in the building was described as minor, and no injuries were reported.
The scene was secured by police Saturday morning to allow investigators to examine the area later in the day. The investigation has been transferred to the SPVM’s arson squad, which will work to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the fire.
Police are also checking for surveillance cameras in the surrounding area. No arrests had been made and the investigation is ongoing.
