The daughter-in-law of an alleged late mobster was not the shooter’s intended target when she was killed in May 2023, the two men behind the shooting have admitted in court.
The target in the fatal shooting of Claudia Iacono, who was killed in the parking lot of her beauty salon in Côte-des-Neiges–NDG on May 16, 2023, was actually her husband Anthony Gallo.
That’s according to Tyranne Andre Greenidge and Kalial Nesfield, the two men who pleaded guilty Tuesday at the Montreal courthouse to conspiracy to murder Gallo. Both men were sentenced to 18 years in prison.
They were originally charged with first-degree murder, but Crown prosecutors filed the new conspiracy charges earlier this month. Greenidge and Nesfield are not believed to be the shooters.
Instead, the accused say their henchman fired at the wrong target, killing Iacono in her vehicle instead. The 39-year-old Iacono was leaving the parking lot of her hair salon on Jean-Talon Street in Côte-des-Neiges.
Anthony Gallo is the son of Moreno Gallo, who was considered a major figure in the Mafia until his assassination in Mexico in 2013. Anthony Gallo has long denied having any Mafia ties.
Two other people were charged in connection with Iacono’s fatal shooting, including alleged shooter Joel Richard Clarke. They are also scheduled to stand trial.
Iacono’s death came amid a series of high-profile Mafia-related killings or attempted murders in the Montreal area in 2023.
Leonardo Rizzuto, the son of former Montreal Mafia boss Vito Rizzuto, survived an attempt on his life in March of that year after his car was shot at while he was driving on Highway 440 in Laval.
On June 5, Francesco Del Balso, an organized crime figure, was shot dead in Montreal’s West Island, with many saying it was linked to the attempt on Rizzuto’s life.
More coming.
