A man was arrested Friday after entering a Longueuil high school with a bladed weapon during what police say appears to have been a conflict involving another person inside the school.
Police were called around 12:30 p.m. following reports of an armed assault at École secondaire Jacques-Rousseau. According to the Longueuil agglomeration police service (SPAL), school staff had already restrained the suspect when officers arrived.
Police say the suspect, an adult known to authorities, was allegedly carrying a bladed weapon. No one was injured during the incident.
SPAL spokesperson Jacqueline Pierre said the situation unfolded quickly and students’ activities were not significantly disrupted. The school was not evacuated and no security perimeter was established.
Police say the alleged victim did not suffer injuries and that preliminary information indicates both people involved attend the school, though details remain under verification.
The suspect was arrested and transported to a detention facility, where investigators are expected to question him. Other witnesses and individuals connected to the incident are also expected to be interviewed as part of the investigation.
Police are asking anyone who recorded video of the incident to share the material with authorities through 911 or via school officials, as investigators work to clarify the circumstances surrounding the event.
The investigation remains ongoing.
