Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating the death of a 25-year-old man after he was found unconscious on a street in Montreal’s east end, police say.
SPVM received a 911 call around 4:45 a.m. about a man being possibly unconscious on St-Catherine Street East near Fafard Street in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.
When officers arrived, they quickly located the victim who was being treated by first responders for injuries to his upper body.
The man was then transported to hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries, according to Johany Charland, a media relations officer with the Montreal police service.
“This event is considered as a suspicious death.” Charland said. “The causes and circumstances remain undetermined.”

Earlier, police officers then noticed signs of violence on the victim’s upper body, she said.
The investigation is ongoing. Forensic technicians were on site Sunday afternoon to collect evidence.
