Emphasizing the crucial role parents play in shaping respectful behavior, the Fédération des comités de parents du Québec (FCPQ) is drawing attention to the second annual Violence and Bullying Prevention Week in Schools.
According to FCPQ President Mélanie Laviolette, children often mirror the attitudes and actions they see at home, making it essential for parents to model civility and kindness in everyday interactions.
“As parents, we have a role to play in preventing violence and bullying,” she said in a news release on Monday. “Our children imitate us, for better or for worse, and it is our responsibility to be examples of civility and respect, both at home and at school.”
Findings from the third edition of the Quebec Family Well-being Survey reveal that 10 per cent of parents say their child frequently experiences bullying or discrimination at school, while 57 per cent report their child has already faced such situations.
To support families, the FCPQ is encouraging parents to explore available resources, including guides and tools designed to help them address bullying and foster open communication with their children.
Materials such as podcasts and webinars developed during the first edition of the campaign remain accessible and continue to provide practical guidance.
The FCPQ stresses that creating safe, respectful learning environments is a shared responsibility.
“This week is an opportunity to continue denouncing violence,” said Laviolette. “To remind everyone that there are resources available to help us.”
