Flight attendant seriously injured in LaGuardia crash faces long recovery

An Air Canada flight attendant who was ejected from a plane during a deadly crash at New York’s LaGuardia Airport is now beginning a long and painful recovery, according to her family.
Solange Tremblay, a 26-year veteran flight attendant, was thrown more than 320 feet from Jazz Flight 8646 after it collided with a fire truck on the runway the night of March 22. The aircraft, inbound from Montreal, was severely damaged in the impact, which killed both pilots and destroyed the cockpit.
In an online fundraiser created by her daughter, the extent of Tremblay’s injuries was described as severe. She suffered two shattered legs with open fractures requiring multiple surgeries and the insertion of metal plates. She also sustained a fractured spine and is awaiting further assessment to determine whether surgery will be needed.
Tremblay has undergone a blood transfusion following complications from her first operation and will require skin grafts to treat significant tissue loss to her legs caused during the crash.
Her daughter says the recovery is expected to take years.
The crash remains under investigation.
