Partial closures of Viger Ave. West, St-Urbain St. until May 18

Montrealers can expect traffic disruptions as construction work in the Ville-Marie and Viger tunnels will partially close two major streets in downtown Montreal until May 18.

Two out of three lanes on Viger Avenue West will be closed between Clark and Côté Streets from 10 p.m. on April 26 to 5 a.m. on May 18.

One of the two lanes on St-Urbain Street will be closed between De la Gauchètiere West and Viger West from 10 p.m. on April 26 to 5 a.m. on May 18. The bike path will remain open.

Quebec’s transport ministry says the closures are necessary to replace utility lines as part of the renovation of the overpass on St-Urbain Street, above Route 136.

Traffic changes

  • Trucks will be prohibited between René-Lévesque Boulevard West and Viger Avenue West. A marked detour route will be in place:
    • Westbound via René-Lévesque Boulevard West and De Bleury Street to reach Viger Avenue.
    • Eastbound via René-Lévesque Boulevard West and Berri Street to reach Viger Avenue.

The ministry says construction could take longer or be rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
