Barbershop in Laval damaged by suspected arson; one arrested

A barbershop in Laval was damaged in a suspected arson fire early Monday morning, prompting a police investigation and the evacuation of nearby residents.

Laval police (SPL) responded to a 911 call at approximately 4 a.m. reporting a fire at a commercial building on De la Concorde Boulevard East in the city’s Pont-Viau neighbourhood.

The blaze caused damage to a barbershop located on the ground floor of the building. As a precaution, tenants living in apartments above the business were forced to leave their homes while emergency crews responded to the scene.

No injuries were reported.

According to police, witnesses reported seeing a suspect fleeing the area before authorities arrived. Investigators believe the fire may have been deliberately set.

A 21-year-old woman believed to be connected to the incident was arrested nearby. She is expected to be questioned by investigators later Monday as police work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.

The investigation remains ongoing.
