Severe thunderstorm warning lifted for Montreal

Environment Canada has lifted its thunderstorm warning for Montreal, Laval and parts of the South Shore.

Meteorologists say they were tracking a severe thunderstorm “capable of producing damaging wind gusts, up to quarter size hail and heavy rain.”

The “yellow”-coded warning was issued at 1:25 p.m. It was lifted less than two hours later.

More than 30,000 Hydro-Quebec customers were without power in the western part of Montreal after “lightning triggered protective equipment on the power transmission system.

The REM and Montreal-Trudeau airport were affected.

“Thunderstorms still ongoing in southern Québec, particularly in the Laurentians, are currently causing additional outages,” a Hydro-Quebec spokesperson said before 4 p.m.
