Second fire this week at same industrial and commercial building in Lachine

A industrial and commercial building in Montreal’s Lachine borough was completely destroyed after a major overnight fire, marking the second blaze at the same location and prompting investigators to treat the incident as suspicious.
Montreal firefighters (SIM) were called to the scene on Du Pacifique Avenue, near Montreal-Toronto Boulevard, at approximately midnight on Thursday after multiple 911 calls reported flames engulfing the structure.
The fire quickly escalated to a two-alarm response, with approximately 145 firefighters deployed to battle the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring buildings. Crews remained on scene for several hours as flames tore through the building.
Incendiary items were found at the scene.
Authorities say the structure suffered extensive damage and is considered a total loss. No injuries were reported, and no occupants were inside the building at the time of the fire.
The blaze occurred at the same location on Monday, where firefighters had previously responded to another fire, raising concerns among investigators. Due to the circumstances, the case has been transferred to the Montreal Police (SPVM) arson unit for further investigation.
Several nearby buildings were threatened by the fire, while vehicles stored in the garage area of an adjacent auto repair business may also have sustained damage.
As firefighters worked to contain the blaze, the eastbound Highway 20 ramp leading to the Honoré-Mercier Bridge was temporarily closed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
