The STM says the $14-million renovation work at the St-Michel metro station has been completed.
Nearly two years after closing down the station for several weeks, the transit agency says the repair work has been completed. The secondary entrance and ticket booth, which had been closed since last September, is also fully reopened.

In a press release Wednesday, the STM said the multi-million dollar project was necessary after significant deterioration in the structure was found by its engineering teams in the fall of 2024. The station was closed for 39 days after the discovery.

The renovation work included the demolition and reconstruction of concrete slabs of two ticket booths and staircases, as well as the reinforcement of the escalators. The outdoor sidewalk and ventilation shaft also underwent repairs.
Restoration of the Sandro-Pertini Park next to the station is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

The STM said nearly half of all its properties were in poor or very poor condition.
“Following the agreements reached between the Quebec government and the federal government on the Canada Public Transit Fund (CPTF) on June 2, the STM will advocate for this new funding to prioritize asset maintenance in order to address the $7 billion investment deficit that has accumulated over the past few years,” the transit agency added.
