Pedestrian fatally struck while crossing Sherbrooke Street in Montreal

A man in his 50s was fatally struck by a driver while crossing Sherbrooke Street E. on Sunday evening in eastern Montreal.
The collision occurred around 10 p.m. near Viau Street, which separates the boroughs of Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie and Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.
According to Montreal police (SPVM), the victim was crossing Sherbrooke Street from north to south when he was struck by the vehicle traveling eastbound.
The impact reportedly occurred at a location “that was not designated as a crosswalk.”
CPR was performed on the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene upon the arrival of paramedics.
The driver of the vehicle stopped and remained at the scene after the collision. He suffered a nervous shock, according to the SPVM.
Police have launched an investigation to fully clarify the circumstances surrounding this incident.
At first glance, there does not appear to be any criminal element in this case, according to public information officer Raphaël Bergeron, who spoke late Sunday night into Monday morning.
