2 brush fires break out near Montreal Metropolitan Airport on South Shore

Longueuil firefighters responded to two brush fires that broke out along a railway track near the Montreal Metropolitan Airport on the South Shore Monday.

Firefighters responded to calls regarding the fires on Rue de l’Aéroport around 4:20 p.m.

According to Longueuil fire service division chief Alain Lessard, the brush fire had several spots along a one kilometre stretch off the railroad track. A second brush fire was found near the intersection of Rue Desautels and Highway 116.

More than 20 firefighters from six different fire stations, as well as crews from the airport’s fire department, were involved in the operation. The fires were brought under control around 6 p.m.

There were no injuries or damages reported.

The cause of the fires is not known at this time.
