A 21-year-old driver is facing significant penalties after being caught speeding in Laval in the early hours of Monday.
According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), officers from the Laval highway patrol stopped the vehicle heading north on Highway 15 at 208 km/h in a zone where the speed limit is 100 km/h.
The driver was issued a fine of $1,993 and 24 demerit points for excessive speeding. Police say the driver’s licence was suspended for seven days.
SQ says excessive speed remains one of the leading causes of fatal collisions on Quebec roads.
