Quebec City man wins $1 million Extra prize, retires the next day

A Quebec City-area man is celebrating an early retirement after winning the $1-million top prize in Loto-Québec’s Extra draw.
Guy Perreault claimed the jackpot from the June 24 draw after adding an Extra number to a free-play lottery ticket. When he first checked his ticket the following morning, he thought he had won $100,000. A second look revealed he had actually matched the $1-million top prize.
Perreault wasted little time making life-changing plans. He headed to work at 5:30 a.m. to tell his employer he was retiring.
“I’m going to enjoy my life quietly,” he said while collecting his prize at the Salon de jeux de Québec.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Marché Express on Boulevard de l’Ormière in Quebec City. The retailer will receive a $10,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.
Perreault’s win continues a run of big lottery prizes in the Capitale-Nationale region. In late June, another local resident, Maude Simard, also won $1 million with a Lotto 6/49 ticket purchased in Saint-Pierre-de-l’Île-d’Orléans.
