Montreal airport to honour worker killed in runway accident

Montreal airport authority (ADM) said it will observe a minute of silence on Wednesday afternoon to honour the ground crew worker who was tragically killed after being struck by an aircraft earlier this week.
Airport staff and community members are expected to gather at Gate 67 at 2 p.m. for the observance.
Oscar Robayo died Monday after being struck by an Airbus 350 aircraft that was reversing on a runway at Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport on Monday evening.
Tributes poured from several corners following the tragic incident.
“Every worker should be able to return home safely after a day’s work,” wrote the airport workers union council, FTQ Montréal Métropolitain Regional Council, on a social media post.
“Today, our thoughts go first and foremost to his family, loved ones, and colleagues who are experiencing an immense loss.”
ADM said Robayo was an employee of Samsic, a ground handling company that operates at the airport.
The worker was struck by a French bee flight that was preparing for departure to Paris. The airline company wrote in a statement the accident involved the aircraft and a pushback vehicle being used during ground operations. French bee says it is fully cooperating with Canadian authorities.
The coroner’s office was notified of the worker’s death and is mandated to investigate the causes and circumstances.
