Motorcyclist dead after collision in Les Cèdres

A car driver is expected to face justice after an illegal overtaking maneuver resulted in a collision and the death of a motorcyclist.
The collision occurred Friday evening, around 9:15 p.m., on Route 338, near the ramp leading to Highway 30, which is named after Canal Road at that location.
“According to preliminary information, the collision occurred when the driver of the car began an illegal overtaking maneuver on a double solid line and collided with a motorcycle travelling in the opposite lane,” explained Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), in an interview.
The motorcyclist was a man in his 40s from the Lanaudière region. He was in critical condition when he was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
“The driver of the car, who is also a man in his 40s, was transported to the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield hospital for shock. He faces criminal charges. Among other things, one could consider dangerous driving causing death,” Sergeant Bilodeau stated.
“Investigators and reconstruction specialists went to the scene during the night to analyze it. Route 338 was reopened around 3:00 a.m.,” said the SQ spokesperson.
The investigation by the Sûreté du Québec is ongoing.
