Montreal police investigate arson at Verdun restaurant

Montreal police (SPVM) are investigating an overnight arson at a restaurant on Verdun Street near Second Avenue in the Verdun borough.
Police were alerted by a citizen at about 2:30 a.m. who reported a fire at the restaurant.
Officers responded to the scene and extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher. The Montreal Fire Department was also deployed to the location.
Witnesses were interviewed as part of the investigation.
According to preliminary information, at least one suspect allegedly threw an incendiary device toward the restaurant, causing a small fire inside the business.
As a precaution, apartments located above the establishment were evacuated. Residents were later allowed to return to their homes.
The damage is believed to be minor, and no one was injured, police said.
No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation has been taken over by the SPVM’s arson unit.
