With Quebec’s election day set for Oct. 5, more than one million people have already cast their ballots as voters take advantage of several early voting options across the province.
A total of 23.59 per cent or about 1,500,000 Quebecers voted in advance polling, according to figures released by Elections Quebec on Tuesday.
Officials said the percentage includes voting over the past two days, as well as ballots cast on college campuses, in private seniors’ homes and in long-term care facilities.
Among Quebec’s electoral districts, Louis-Hébert in the Capitale-Nationale recorded the highest turnout, with 38.38 per cent of voters casting their ballots early. It was followed by Vanier-Les Rivières in Quebec City, at 34.40 per cent.
Ungava, the largest and most northern provincial electoral district in Quebec, recorded the lowest voter turnout at 8.31 per cent.
Advance voting began Sunday at select polling stations. Earlier voting at the offices of returning officers took place Friday and Saturday. Students at participating institutions were also able to vote on campus Friday.
