Montreal police make arrest in Plateau triple murder

By News Staff

The Major Crimes unit of the Montreal police (SPVM) arrested a 19-year-old in connection to the triple homicide last week in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough. A 15, 23, and 25-year-old were all stabbed to death.

Yero Sava Dogo appeared in court on Thursday to face charges of second-degree murder in the May 21 death of Alexandre Vatamanu Salamanca, who was in his 20s.

“In addition, the two other people allegedly directly involved in the murders have been identified: they are two of the three deceased victims.”

Authorities add that, “the numerous pieces of evidence analyzed following the event show that one of the deceased victims was directly involved in two of the murders, while another of the deceased victims was responsible for the third murder,” explained commander Jean-Sébastien Caron.

Last Tuesday, at around 7 p.m., a brawl involving several people broke out in an alleyway between Saint-André and Mentana streets, near Rachel Street – but seems to have ended in a parking lot of an apartment building. The conflict escalated when one of the suspects severely stabbed the first victim. “Additional stabbings followed on both sides,” police explained.

One of the victims died at the scene, despite resuscitation attempts. The other two people were taken to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

These were the 14th, 15th and 16th homicides of the year on the island of Montreal.

The investigation will continue to gather more details on the origins of the conflict.

Sava Dogo remains detained and is set to return to court on June 11.

The SPVM is asking anyone with information to call 911 or their local police station – or contact Info-Crime Montréal anonymously and confidentially at 514-393-1133 or via the reporting form available on infocrimemontreal.ca.
