Out of Order Podcast: Montrealer creates safe space for grieving parents

For over 20 years Montrealer Louna Kadoch has been helping parents navigate perinatal loss at the Jewish General Hospital — but in Dec. 2022, she experienced an immense loss herself.
Her 12-year-old daughter passed away just months after being diagnosed with cancer.
Today, Kadoch continues to offer inspiration and comfort to grieving parents — through her “Out of Order” podcast.
“She gave me this strength,” said Kadoch. “I may have had it deep down somewhere, but I promise you it’s all her.”
“She was someone full of life,” said Kadoch. “Full of heart, full of love, full of generosity and kindness.”
Miriam Lia was also a sister to Jacob and Emma, and loved making others smile.
Her joy sparkled everywhere — even at the hospital where she’d create “get well cards” for other children on her floor.
What was supposed to be an 11-hour surgery to help treat the neuroblastoma by her adrenal gland – became 18 hours – and then last hours of her life.
“When she was about to go into surgery,” said Kadoch. “She said this and this sentence that I’m about to share with you, it was very important for me to have that on her tombstone and to teach others what she taught me.”
“She said to me, ‘life doesn’t fall apart, mom, it falls into place’.”
Kadosh’s journey – one of the many raw and strength-filled stories from Mother’s she has shared on the podcast, called: Out of Order.
“I thought of it and I said out of order, why? It is not normal for a parent to lose a child,” explained Kadoch. “No matter when they pass away.”
“Whether the baby was two months old, whether the child was 12 years old, whether your child was 30 years old.”
“It doesn’t make sense,” she added. “It is out of order.”
The importance of creating awareness around the grieving process, also highlighted in the podcast.
“It’s so important to be kind,” she said. “It’s so important to be empathetic, not have pity on us.”
“Just be empathetic towards us.”

Offering inspiration and comfort – just like Miriam Lia did through her sunshine-filled cards she created in her final days.
“When the sun is shining,” said Kadoch. “She is protecting me.”
“I am talking to you today and I can feel the sun on us,” she added. “So beautiful and I can feel her warmth.”
