A 14-year-old scooter driver died following a collision with a pickup truck on Wednesday night in Trois-Rivières, Mauricie.

The collision occurred around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of Laviolette and du Saint-Maurice Blvd., reported the Trois-Rivières Police.

“The young driver of the scooter was travelling westbound on boulevard du Saint-Maurice. She wanted to make a left turn onto southbound Laviolette (…) then, unfortunately, the pickup truck also travelling in the opposite direction on du Saint-Maurice Blvd. was unable to avoid her,” said Caroline Chartrand, spokeswoman for the police force.

Chartrand indicated that patrol officers happened to be nearby, and that they intervened very quickly to begin resuscitation maneuvers on the young girl. The victim was transported to Trois-Rivières hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup was not injured.

For the time being, no criminal element is being considered, said Chartrand.
