Overture with the Arts’ Island Fête returns to Montreal’s West Island until Sunday

“I love the Caribbean,” said one attendee returning for the third edition of Overture with the Arts' Island Fête, held Saturday and Sunday at Plaza Pointe-Claire in Montreal’s West Island.

Overture with the Arts’ Island Fête is back for its third year in Montreal’s West Island, bigger than ever.

With more performances, food vendors and the addition of food trucks, the event continues to celebrate Caribbean cuisine, Black culture, and local artistry.

“I love the Caribbean. I’ve been to most of the islands and it’s just a break to get out and enjoy life and see something different”, said one attendee on Saturday.

“We have our food vendors on site. We have bouncy castles, face painting, lots of activities for the family”, said the co-founder of Island Fête and executive director of Overture with the Arts, Akilah Newton. “We’ve actually extended it for a second day, so we’ll be on site at the Pointe Claire Plaza on Sunday as well. So Saturday we’re here from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.”

After two years in Pierrefonds, the event has moved to Plaza Pointe-Claire, bringing the sounds of calypso, soca, and reggae to the weekend lineup.

On Saturday, attendees enjoyed music, food, and family-friendly activities while supporting Overture with the Arts, a Montreal-based non-profit organization dedicated to providing accessible arts education to young people.

“Donations are welcomed at the door. We are going to have a 50-50 raffle. So any support you can give, we are greatly appreciative,” added Newton.
