Quebec children’s personal data compromised on HopHop app

The personal data of many children and parents using the HopHop app in Quebec daycares and schools has been compromised.

“An article published by Radio-Canada on Tuesday, October 7, mentions that a cybersecurity expert was able to access information contained in our database…” the company states on its website. “The incident occurred between September 29, 2025, and October 7, 2025. The user data that was compromised includes: first and last names, photo, phone number, email address, the first and last names of their children, photos of the children (if the user had uploaded any), as well as the name of the school/daycare attended by the children.”

The app which is used to coordinate pick up times at schools and daycares has now been suspended.

“We have activated the procedure to temporarily suspend access to our servers and our application. We are currently in discussions with the Ministère de la Cybersécurité et du Numérique to collaborate with them in addressing the identified vulnerability,” the company writes on its website.

“We will keep you informed of developments on this site. Please be assured that we take this situation very seriously and are working tirelessly to resolve it. Our goal has always been to provide you with an application that is both secure and user-friendly. We are doing everything we can to restore that level of security.”

Over 500 families use the app in Quebec. It allows centres to synchronize the preparation of the children with the estimated time of arrival of the parent using the GPS of a smart phone.
