The Thanksgiving long weekend took a tragic turn for the family of a young woman whose vehicle was the first to be hit in a five-vehicle pileup Friday evening in Scott, Beauce.
“The Sûreté du Québec unfortunately confirmed this morning the death of a 24-year-old female driver,” said Sergeant Maryté Bolduc, spokesperson for the SQ, in an interview on Saturday.
Emergency services were called to Highway 73 at around 5:30 p.m., where a van traveling northbound reportedly veered out of its lane, hitting the victim’s vehicle head-on.
“We’re talking about five vehicles that were involved. The collision occurred in a construction zone,” said Sergeant Bolduc.
Three other people were injured, two men and a child, but their injuries are not life-threatening. “Their injuries are considered minor,” said Sergeant Bolduc.
“Highway 73 was closed for part of the night to allow Sûreté du Québec reconstructionists to conduct their investigation and analyze the scene. This section of Highway 73 was reopened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning,” she reported.
The cause of this pile-up has not yet been established.
The SQ investigation is ongoing.
