SAAQclic fiasco: Gallant Commission report postponed to February 2026

By The Canadian Press

The Legault government has agreed for a second time to postpone the deadline for the Gallant Commission, which is examining the SAAQclic fiasco, to submit its report and recommendations.

Under this new postponement, announced Thursday morning, the commission will have until February 13, 2026, to complete its work.

In a brief press release, the office of Justice Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette did not provide an explanation for this new postponement.

Commissioner Denis Gallant was originally scheduled to submit his final report by September 30. In June, the government had extended this deadline to December 15.

After hearing from politicians and current and former employees of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), the Gallant Commission is hearing testimony from experts this week.

The public hearings are scheduled to conclude Friday.

The SAAQ’s failed digital transformation is expected to cost taxpayers at least $1.1 billion by 2027, or $500 million more than expected, according to calculations by the Auditor General of Quebec.

When he launched the inquiry into SAAQclic last March, Premier Legault made a point of mentioning that Judge Gallant’s conclusions would be made public before the October 2026 election.
