As the crisis within the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) continues, leader Pablo Rodriguez says the MNA at the heart of the controversy is doing damage to the political party.
On Tuesday, at a press conference at the National Assembly, Rodriguez was once again bombarded with questions about Marwah Rizqy’s dismissal of her chief of staff, Geneviève Hinse, last week.
“I think she (Rizqy) is hurting the party, and that’s unfortunate,” Rodriguez told reporters.
Rodriguez says Rizqy has yet to explain why she dismissed Hinse, a close associate of Rodriguez’s, without consulting him beforehand.
“I have never received a note, email, … take whatever form you want, text message, paper left on a desk or anything about a problem that might exist,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez followed that dismissal by removing Rizqy from her position as parliamentary leader and suspended her from the caucus, citing a “breach of trust.”
Rizqy, an MNA for Saint-Laurent, sent a letter to Hinse stating she was dismissed “due to serious ethical breaches” and for “repeated acts of insubordination.”
On Sunday, Rizqy wrote on Facebook that she could not comment publicly, as it was a human resources matter.
The MNA also stated that she is “more than aware” that this situation has placed her “political family in a delicate position.”
Rodriguez said he wrote to Rizqy last week to request a meeting. “I haven’t heard back yet.”
“I think it leaves things up in the air,” he said. “She knows how to reach me. I wrote to her last week. and I think it’s hurting the party. Because it’s still there instead of clarifying things, presumptions, guessing. It’s very easy to clear the air: talk to the leader.”
