1 dead in house fire in Saint-Denis-de-Brompton

One person died overnight Friday to Saturday in a house fire in Saint-Denis-de-Brompton, in the Eastern Townships.

Police were called to a residence on Côte de l’Artiste at around 1 a.m., said Camille Savoie, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The fire was brought under control by firefighters. One person was later found dead in the rubble.

By late morning, it was still too early to determine the exact cause of the fire.

The investigation has been taken over by the SQ’s major crimes division.

A fire scene technician is also on site to try to shed light on the tragedy.
