Two women injured in early-morning shooting inside Plateau nightclub

Two women in their early 20s were hospitalized after a shooting inside a nightclub in Montreal’s Plateau-Mont-Royal borough early Saturday morning, according to police.

Emergency calls were placed to 911 shortly after 3 a.m. after witnesses reported gunfire inside Club École Privée near Milton Street as the venue was closing for the night.

Montreal police (SPVM) officers responding to the scene quickly located two injured women suffering from gunshot wounds to their lower bodies. Both victims were transported to hospital and are expected to survive.

Investigators say the suspect fled before officers arrived. As of Saturday morning, police had not identified a motive or made any arrests.

Witnesses described the alleged shooter to police as a very tall man wearing dark clothing.

SPVM has secured the area while investigators continue examining the scene. Authorities say they plan to review surveillance camera footage from inside and around the club and interview additional witnesses, including the victims, in an effort to determine what led to the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.
