Man found dead in golf course pond

MONTREAL – A 65-year-old man was found dead in a golf course pond in Sainte-Julie.

Michel Guy Beland was reported missing by his girlfriend to Richelieu-Saint-Laurent police Sunday night.

His body was found at the Vallee-du-Richelieu Golf Club Monday.

Police say Beland may have been trying to retrieve golf balls from the pond at night using diving equipment.

“The man who unfortunately died here Sunday night didn’t work for us and didn’t have the authorization to come to our club for diving in our lakes,” said the golf club n a statement to CityNews.

This type of operation is usually done by Mulligan International, a company based in Beloeil that the club often uses.

Beland’s death is not considered suspicious.
