Quebec adds 35 more COVID deaths, shipments of antibody-based therapy arrives

By News Staff

Quebec adding 35 more COVID-related deaths in the last 24 hours. Hospitalizations down by nine patients and ICU numbers stable compared to the previous day.

The province recently received its first shipment of Evusheld, an antibody-based therapy to prevent COVID-19 infections – it’s administered through an injection by a health-care professional. The drug was developed by AstraZeneca and approved by Health Canada in April.

Evusheld is recommended for those 12 and older, who are immunocompromised, and unlikely to have an adequate immune response to COVID-19, or for who vaccination is not recommended.

Latest COVID-19 data

Quebec is dealing with 811 active outbreaks.

15,178 fatalities total since the pandemic began.

1,901 people being treated for the virus in hospital – 99 new entries and 108 discharges.

Of those, 66 in ICU – with 12 newly admitted and 12 released.

A total of 772 new infections, with 558 tests self-declared by Quebecers who were positive. The overall case numbers likely an undercount as access to PCR tests is limited to specific groups and not everyone self-declare their rapid tests.

6,463 health care workers are absent from the system for COVID-related reasons, up from the previous day (preventive withdrawal, isolation, awaiting results, etc.).

Vaccination rates:

-54 per cent of those 18+ have gotten a third dose, with 1K+ boosters administered in the last 24 hours

-11 per cent of those eligible have gotten a fourth shot, with 10K+ doses of the second booster administered in the last 24 hours

-close to 12K+ doses administered last 24 hours, 19.6M+ total so far
