Under 2,000 Quebecers still in the dark after May 21 violent storms

By News Staff

Just under 2,000 households in Quebec remain without power as of Monday 5 p.m., nine days after a storm hit the province.

Hydro-Québec is reporting 1,941 customers are still in the dark – with 1,324 of those in the Laurentians.

The Quebec government announced Saturday they would offer payments to cover food losses by beneficiaries of social assistance programs during the power outages. Households receiving social assistance who were without power for more than 24 hours are entitled to $75 per person, up to a maximum of $300 per family.
