Election sign photoshopped with dripping blood: suspect arrested

By The Canadian Press

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the sharing of a doctored campaign poster featuring a CAQ candidate, the Sûreté du Québec announced Saturday.

An image of Sylvain Lévesque’s election sign dripping with blood – photoshopped – began circulating on social media last week.

Police say the suspect is a 44-year-old man living in Saint-Béatrix, in the Lanaudière region – outside Lévesque’s riding.

He will have to appear at the Palais de Justice in Joliette on Sept.19.

“We remind you that it is important to remember that everyone is free to express themselves, but in compliance with laws and regulations,” the SQ said in a statement. “As a result, we remind you that caution is needed in the words conveyed.”

Last Thursday, Lévesque filed a complaint with the Quebec City police department.

The investigation is still ongoing.
