Teen charged in connection with hammer attack in Montreal North

A 17-year-old was charged in youth court on Thursday in connection with a hammer attack on a 16-year-old student from Calixa-Lavallée High School earlier this week, in Montreal North.
The suspect pled not guilty to charges of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and possession of a weapon.
The SPVM say the teen was arrested Wednesday afternoon. He cannot be identified because of his age, but is not a student at the school.
He’s suspected of having participated in the attack alongside at least four other individuals.
It happened Monday around 4:30 p.m. near École Calixa-Lavallée on Pelletier Ave. in Montreal North.
16-year-old victim’s condition improving
The 16-year-old teen who was attacked was sent to hospital in critical condition, but later improved.
Images of the group of suspects fleeing, hammer in hand, made the rounds on social media.
Police are urging anyone who has information about the assault to contact 911 or go to their neighbourhood police station.
