A man died in a snowboarding accident Saturday evening at the Bromont Ski Resort.

The accident happened around 7 p.m. when the 26-year-old reportedly collided with a light post at the edge of a downhill run.

The victim was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“It is with deep sadness that we inform you that a tragic accident involving a young man took place in the mountains tonight,” the ski hill wrote on its ‘Bromont, montagne d’experiences’ Facebook page.

“Around 7 p.m., patrollers were called to help at the ski hill. The young man left by ambulance after our patrollers applied the necessary protocols. Teams are currently focusing on shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the event. To comply with procedures, the Bromont police will conduct an investigation.

“This tragic event is very upsetting. Psychological support is being offered to the teams involved. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young man.”

A “nuit blanche” night-time skiing event was taking place at the hill at the time of the accident.

“Such sad news,” tweeted Brome-Missisquoi MP Pascale St-Onge. “The whole mountain community in Bromont is grieving this morning. I am wholeheartedly with this young man’s family and loved ones.”

Bromont police say the investigation is ongoing and they’re still trying to contact the family.

Police are expected to provide more information Sunday night.
