The fall vaccination campaign against COVID-19 in Quebec should begin on October 10, the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, announced Monday, during a press conference at the Montreal Heart Institute.
Quebec intends to offer the vaccine as a priority to vulnerable people, specified Minister Dubé. More details will be announced by national public health director, Dr. Luc Boileau, in the next two weeks.
“We are going to have around a hundred service centers,” added Minister Dubé, inviting health professionals to come and lend a hand via the Je Contribue online portal.
Earlier this month, Health Canada authorized a new version of Moderna’s Spikevax vaccine against COVID-19. These new vaccines will replace the so-called “bivalent” vaccines, offered in Quebec since the fall of 2022, which attack both the Omicron strain and the original strain of the virus.
The new versions target a specific target, the Omicron XBB.1.5 sub-variant (also called “Kraken variant”), which appeared in early 2023.
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization recommends getting this new dose of vaccine six months after the last COVID-19 inoculation or infection.
