Two teens arrested in connection with TMR vehicle arson: Montreal police

Montreal police (SPVM) arrested two teens suspected of allegedly preparing to set fire to vehicles outside of a home in Town of Mount Royal (TMR) on Thursday night.

Two 15-year-olds are set to appear in youth court Friday afternoon.

Police are still looking for a third suspect who they say managed to evade officers.

The SPVM reports that at around 2:43 a.m. police spotted a vehicle loitering near a home. Three people got out and approached a private entrance. Officers intervened as the suspects attempted they say to set fire to three vehicles using a Molotov cocktail. The suspects fled. Two of them, who tried to hide behind nearby residences, were arrested. The third escaped by car.

This is the fourth time since June that vehicles at this specific residence were the target of arson – it happened twice just earlier this month. A business belonging to the same owners was also targeted in the same way in May.

The SPVM says the arrests were made possible by increased surveillance of the area by the arson squad, in collaboration with Station 26 (Côte-des-Neiges, Mont-Royal, Outremont) and the ARRET group.

The investigation is ongoing.
