Fake bomb threats in Quebec: man arrested in Morocco

Quebec provincial police say a man was arrested by Moroccan authorities this week after an investigation into fake bomb threats in Canada and around the world.
The Sûreté du Québec says emails making bomb threats between Oct. 18 and Nov. 27 were sent to schools, businesses, media organizations and government offices.
Police allege the sender would demand a monetary ransom in exchange for the bomb’s location.
The SQ alleges there were around 50 such emails received in Quebec alone.
An investigation involving several police forces around the world – including the SQ – led authorities to Tafraoute in southwestern Morocco.
A 45-year-old suspect was arrested.
“The Sûreté du Québec would like to remind the population not to respond to this type of email and to report them by contacting their local police department,” the police force said in a news release Saturday.
