Montreal’s Île-aux-Tourtes bridge completely closed again this weekend

The Île-aux-Tourtes bridge on Montreal’s West Island will be completely closed once again this weekend.

The bridge connects the West Island to Vaudreuil-Dorion on Highway 40.

Transport Quebec says the bridge will close on Friday at 11 p.m. between Anciens-Combattants Blvd. and Saint-Charles Ave. and reopen Monday, Dec. 18 at 5 a.m.

Motorists have had to deal with a number of closures on the Île-aux-Tourtes recently as a crack was found on the aging bridge last month.

Only two lanes, one in each direction, remain open weekdays.

Transport Quebec says this weekend’s repair work will be done so they can hopefully reopen a third lane within six weeks.

Drivers trying to get off island are asked to take Highway 20 or Highway 30 instead. Tolls have been removed off Highway 30.

Transport Quebec is also issuing two free Exo train tickets for those using public transit from the Hudson, Vaudreuil, Dorion, Pincort and Ile-Perrot exo train stations. Some buses are also free.

Earlier this week, Quebec’s Transport Minister announced work had started on the new Île-aux-Tourtes bridge. It’s expected to be completed by 2026.
