A 31-year-old man was injured in the upper body during an armed attack in a Montreal bar overnight.

Around 3:40 a.m., police were called to intervene in an establishment near 17th Avenue and Jean-Talon, in Saint-Michel.

“According to initial information, a conflict broke out inside between around five people. One of them then took out a sharp object and injured the victim,” said agent Sabrina Gauthier, spokesperson for Montreal police (SPVM).

The victim was transported to hospital and authorities report his injuries were not life-threatening.

No arrests were made as of Friday morning, as the suspects fled before police arrived.

The SPVM met with witnesses and surveillance cameras were viewed. The victim must also be met to better understand the circumstances of the incident.

Suspects try to set fire to a building in Ville-Marie

Ten minutes after calls were made to police regarding the bar fight, officers caught two suspects allegedly taking part in arson at a building on Notre-Dame west in the Ville-Marie borough.

At around 3:50 a.m., police caught the suspects as they deployed an incendiary object. Officers brought it under control, prioritizing it so it did not catch fire, the SPVM said.

The suspects quickly fled the scene.

The case has been transferred to the Montreal police arson squad.

The building had minor damages and the investigation is ongoing.
