Montrealers and their newborns now eligible for ‘welcome’ gift box from city

By News Staff

If you just welcomed a new baby — you can receive a gift from the City of Montreal.

As of Jan. 1, parents can get a “welcome baby” box full of useful items for their newborn: a Bienvenue bébé box.

The kit includes a dozen educational and locally-made items like a blanket and a bib.

In addition, the objects offered will be ecological, safe, and non-gendered.

The bundles of joy must be born in 2024 to receive the welcome gift.

To be eligible, parents or legal guardians — regardless of immigration status — must:

  • Live in one of the city’s 19 boroughs
  • Have official proof of address
  • Proof of the child’s birth

You can receive the box by visiting any library in the city within the first year of the baby’s life.

This 100 per cent City of Montreal initiative, developed in collaboration with several administrative units of the City, is a first for a city in Quebec.
