A 28-year-old pedestrian was the victim of a hit-and-run in Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie early Friday morning – and suffered a head injury.

A 23-year-old driver was arrested in connection with the incident not long after, only a few kilometres away from where it happened.

“”The pedestrian was struck, fell on the floor. The vehicle didn’t stop and continues his route heading north on Saint Laurent,” said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant.

Calls came into 911 around 4 a.m. about the event at the intersection of Saint-Laurent Blvd. and Beaubien, in Little Italy.

Montreal Police (SPVM) report that the victim was conscious when she was transported to the hospital.

Witnesses told police that after the hit-and-run, they saw the driver’s vehicle heading north on Saint-Laurent Blvd. A few minutes later, the driver swerved onto the l’Acadie Blvd. ramp leading to Highway 40 heading west and had a collision. That’s where he was taken into custody.

“We could confirm that speed and alcohol was involved in that accident,” explained Brabant. “Potential accusation that are going to be held against him. So, we’re talking, we’re talking about drinking under the influence while driving. It could be dangerous driving and hit and run.”

Security perimeters were set up at both the scene of the hit-and-run and where the car crashed so police could continue their investigation.
