Montreal is officially 382 years old! The city was founded on May 17, 1642.

Montreal is the largest city in Quebec, with over 2 million residents – according to city data from 2023.

In 1642, French military officer Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve named Montreal “Ville-Marie” – dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

The city became a focal point for the fur trade.

Today, Montreal is home to many iconic buildings and areas like the Old Port, the Lachine Canal, and more.

This famous city is older than Canada, which was founded in 1867 – just about 225 years older!
