New public transit fares will start July 1 for Montreal area

The Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) is reminding public transit users that fare changes will come into effect on July 1 in Montreal.

According to a press release, ARTM officials said that these are part of the annual indexations and allows users to benefit from well-rounded services including the bus, metro, train, REM, and river shuttle.

The average indexation of three per cent is below the inflation observed over the past year in Montreal (4.1 per cent), officials note.

“The annual rate update remains responsible and aims to protect access to various services for the entire population,” said ARTM general director Benoît Gendron. “The choice of collective transport is wise and remains less expensive than all other motorized options.”

The single pass All Modes AB, ABC, ABCD will increase by $0.25, which has not seen an increase since October 2022.

The special bus tickets linked to the REM will be gradually adjusted until 2026.

Also, river shuttle tickets are now $6.

Monthly ticket passes will be increasing in all zones:

Zone A is going up from $97 to $100

Zone AB is going up from $155 to $160

Zone ABC is going up from $190 to $196

Zone ABCD is going up from $263 to $271

The prices will remain the same for one and two-pass tickets for all transportation in zone A but the 10-ticket package will increase by 75 cents to $33.25

The reduced fare monthly passes will see an increase. Zone A will cost $60, Zone AB will cost $96, Zone ABC will cost $118 and Zone ABCD will cost $163.

Pilot project

Compiled of experts from the region’s transit authorities and the ARTM, the Concerto team is working towards implementing a new ticketing system for transit users.

Starting this fall, the pilot project for payment by bank cards on buses (currently available in Laval) will be extended to various northern EXO lines.

“Similarly, the gradual deployment of the digitalization of the OPUS card in the smartphone will begin in the summer of 2025,” reads the press release. “This new functionality will facilitate the coexistence of certain tickets as well as validation on the phone.”
