Montreal will host the Presidents Cup at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Île-Bizard from Sept. 24 to 29.

The tournament is expected to gather the best golfers in the world, with close to 30,000 spectators in attendance daily.

However, a limited number of vehicles will be allowed in Île-Bizard for the duration of the tournament and street parking will be prohibited.

“We’re easing the commute of everyone trying to navigate between Île-Bizard and Montreal Island by major congestion,” says spokesperson for the City of Montreal, Philippe Sabourin.

Sabourin said there will be a shuttle service provided across Montreal which will be provided for free. The buses will be offered for spectators at the Côte-Vertu metro station and at the corner of Peel and Saint-Jacques Street in downtown Montreal.

Residents received three stickers by mail to install on the upper right corner of the windshield in their car. The stickers are needed to cross the bridge and to take the ferry. To use the bridge, residents must drive to the screening area on Pierrefonds Blvd. East between Hamel Street and Jacques-Bizard Blvd.

Only vehicles with event stickers will be allowed on the island, either through the Jacques-Bizard Bridge or on the ferry linked to Laval.

General Director of the Presidents Cup, Ryan Hart said one of the lessons learned from the last time they were here in 2007 was managing the congestion of traffic and making the event as stress free as possible.

“You know logistics are logistics, the logistics are gonna have some challenges,” Hart said. “We knew that the bridge was going to be under construction the day we got here and we worked plan A, B, C and D right from the word go.”

Participants should consult the promoter’s website or the city’s website to better plan their journeys.

Residents of Île-Bizard have mixed reactions to the tournament’s impact on traffic and the community.

“It’s been bad even before the golf tournament I think it’s gonna be worse,” said a resident of Île-Bizard. “I hope they have it under control, a lot of people are talking about just not going anywhere for the week.”

The city of Montreal has also removed all road obstacles on the Jacques-Bizard Bridge, on Pierrefonds Blvd., between Sainte-Anne Street and Saint-Jean Blvd.

Residents and Montreal’s should monitor the STM bus routes for updates with Hart saying all additional info on routes and times will be updated daily on their website.
